Gay.blog.br is one of the oldest LGBTQIA+ editorial portals in Brazil, and one of the most followed on social media. 245K followers on Facebook. Coverage of culture, rights, and entertainment in three languages: Portuguese, English, and Spanish.
The technical scope
A full audit of the existing WordPress installation, identification of plugin conflicts, and reorganization of the multilingual architecture with WPML. Integration with more than 10 social platforms. Podcast setup on Spotify with an automated RSS feed. Newsletter segmented by language. Editorial transparency and corrections policies published on the site — an increasingly common requirement from advertisers.
The WPML challenge
The simplified version of WPML was creating conflicts with SEO plugins that were both trying to control canonical tags and hreflang at the same time. The solution involved a clear hierarchy of responsibilities: a single plugin responsible for each layer — canonical, hreflang, sitemap — with no overlap.
